Dr. Xu is a Research Fellow of GBIC. He is also Associate Dean at the Faculty of Land and Food Systems, University of British Columbia. He is also the Program Director and Associate Professor for Food, Nutrition and Health Department. He obtained his MSc and PhD from University of Guelph. His overall research interest is to understand how nutrients act at the cellular and molecular levels with an emphasis on nutrient-gene interactions and their subsequent impact on metabolic functions. His current research focuses are: 1) Zinc, growth, and growth regulation; 2) Regulatory role of zinc in apoptosis; and 3) Zinc and breast cancer.
